Titanium bolts screws studs and U-bolts

Titanium fasteners must be ordered by joint function, finished-fastener standard or drawing, material grade, thread, geometry, surface, mating parts and acceptance tests. Bar-stock chemistry alone does not establish finished-fastener strength, thread quality or assembly performance.

Finished-Fastener Definition

State the dimensional and mechanical standard or approved drawing, grade and condition, thread system and tolerance, head/body dimensions and quantity. Do not transfer bar properties directly to the finished part; heading, machining, rolling/cutting threads and heat treatment can affect acceptance.

Thread, Mating Parts and Galling

Define nut, washer, tapped material, engagement and thread gauging. Titanium pairs can gall, so specify approved lubricant/coating or clean condition, assembly speed, tightening method and reuse policy. Critical joints may require torque–tension or trial-assembly validation.

Inspection and Documentation

Specify dimensions, thread gauges, surface, proof/tensile or other mechanical tests when applicable, MTC and lot traceability. Eye bolts and U-bolts require application-specific load direction and should not be assigned lifting or structural capacity without approved design and testing.

RFQ Checklist

  • Joint function, standard/drawing, grade and condition
  • Thread, tolerance, head/body geometry and length
  • Mating nut, washer, clamped materials and environment
  • Surface, lubricant/coating and installation method
  • Tests, MTC, traceability, quantity and packaging

FAQ

Can a titanium bolt be ordered from diameter and length only?

No. Thread, head, grade, standard, surface, mating parts and tests are also required.

Are rolled threads always required?

Follow the design and specification; manufacturing route and acceptance must be stated when critical.

Does titanium eliminate corrosion in the joint?

No. Review crevices, mating materials, galvanic coupling and service.
