Selection boundary: Grade 2 is not a direct lower-cost substitute when strength, fatigue performance or approved material qualification controls the design. Grade 23 is also not an automatic upgrade because its specification, interstitial limits, testing and application controls differ.

Is Ti-6Al-4V bar always ASTM Grade 5?

No. Ti-6Al-4V describes an alloy family. The purchase order must state ASTM Grade 5, AMS 4928 or another exact specification, revision and condition.

Can TC4 certificates replace ASTM B348 Grade 5 certificates?

Not automatically. TC4 belongs to the same nominal alloy family, but chemistry limits, condition, properties, testing and documentation must be checked against the required ASTM or AMS specification.
