Titanium Plate and Tube Sheet for Desalination Equipment

Titanium plate and tube sheet are considered for desalination and seawater heat-transfer equipment because correctly selected titanium can provide useful resistance in many chloride-bearing environments. The purchase decision still depends on water chemistry, temperature, velocity, crevices, fabrication and the complete equipment design.

Which Product Form Does the Equipment Need?

Grade 2 titanium plate is a common fabrication starting material for shells, covers, baffles and equipment components. A titanium tube sheet is a drawing-controlled component whose hole pattern, ligament, thickness, flatness and tube-joint details must match the exchanger design. Buyers should not order a tube sheet only by diameter and grade.

Grade 2 or Grade 7?

Tube Sheet RFQ Checklist

  • Grade, governing material specification and revision
  • Finished diameter, thickness, cladding or lining statement if any, and machining allowance
  • Tube-hole diameter, pattern, pitch, groove and surface-finish requirements
  • Flatness, parallelism, datum and edge requirements
  • Tube-to-tube-sheet joint method and approved fabrication drawing
  • UT, PT, PMI, dimensional report and traceability requirements

What Should Be Reviewed Before Ordering?

Confirm chloride content, oxidizing or reducing conditions, temperature, flow, aeration, deposits, cleaning chemicals, shutdown exposure and galvanic contact. The fabricator should also control contamination, forming and welding procedures. Product certification cannot compensate for an unsuitable exchanger design.

FAQ

Is Grade 7 always required for seawater?

No. Grade selection requires the complete environment and design. Grade 2 is widely evaluated for many seawater systems, while Grade 7 may be considered for specific aggressive or crevice conditions.

Can a tube sheet be quoted without a drawing?

A preliminary estimate may be possible, but manufacturing requires an approved drawing that defines hole pattern, tolerances, surfaces, datums and inspection.
