Titanium Flanges and Fittings for Seawater and Desalination Piping

Titanium flanges and fittings can connect corrosion-resistant seawater and desalination piping, but the component grade alone does not establish a reliable piping system. Buyers must coordinate pipe dimensions, fitting geometry, flange rating, gasket, bolting, welding and inspection.
Connection Type Selection
| Component | Typical function | Important RFQ data |
|---|---|---|
| Weld neck flange | Butt-welded flanged connection with a tapered hub | Grade, NPS, class, bore or schedule, facing and standard |
| Slip-on flange | Flange positioned over pipe and welded as designed | Pipe OD, flange dimensions, facing and welding detail |
| Elbow | Changes piping direction | Angle, radius, NPS/OD, wall, ends and dimensions |
| Tee | Creates or combines a branch | Run and branch sizes, wall, ends and center-to-end dimensions |
| Reducer | Changes line size | Concentric or eccentric form, large and small ends, wall and length |
Material Compatibility
Match the flange and fitting material to the connected pipe, welding procedure and service. Review seawater temperature, velocity, aeration, deposits, crevices, cleaning chemicals and dissimilar-metal contact. Grade 2, Grade 7 and Grade 12 each require service-specific evaluation.
Standards and Drawings
State the material specification and the dimensional standard with revision. ASTM B363 or ASME SB363 may apply to titanium welding fittings when within scope; flange material and dimensions require their own invoked specifications. Special bores, facings, branches or wall transitions need an approved drawing.
Inspection Plan
- MTC and heat or lot traceability
- Dimensions, wall, ends, bevels and flange facing
- Visual and surface examination
- PT, RT, UT or pressure testing when specified and applicable
- Cleanliness and protection of sealing surfaces

FAQ
Can fittings and flanges be ordered from the pipe schedule alone?
No. Schedule helps define wall but does not define all fitting dimensions, flange class, bore, facing, material, testing or service requirements.
Should gasket and bolting be included in the review?
Yes. The complete flanged joint determines sealing, preload and galvanic behavior.
