Titanium CNC Machining Design and RFQ Guide

A 3D model defines geometry but is not a complete titanium CNC machining purchase specification. A quote-ready package needs a controlled 2D drawing, material definition, critical characteristics, final surface condition, inspection plan, quantity and delivery requirements.
Quote-Ready Data Package
| Input | Define | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Design files | 2D drawing revision and matching 3D model | Controls dimensions, notes and geometry |
| Material | Grade, source form, standard and condition | Controls properties and material route |
| Features | Datums, GD&T, threads and edges | Controls manufacture and inspection |
| Final condition | Finish, cleaning and permitted marks | Prevents acceptance disputes |
Design for Manufacturability
Identify functional tolerances rather than applying the tightest general tolerance everywhere. Review tool access, internal corners, deep pockets, thin walls, long bores, thread runout, workholding and deburring before production.
Material and Finished-Part Acceptance
ASTM B265, B348 or B381 may govern source plate, bar or forging. The finished component remains controlled by the drawing and purchase order. State whether a source-form, grade, condition or route change needs approval.
Inspection and Production Release
Define first article, sampling or 100% inspection by characteristic; measurement method and stage; CMM or gauge reports; NDE; MTC; heat traceability; and certificate of conformity. Critical dimensions need accessible datums.

FAQ
Can a quotation be made from a STEP file only?
A preliminary review may be possible, but a drawing is normally needed for tolerances, threads, finish and acceptance.
Should every dimension require 100% inspection?
No. Define inspection depth from function, risk and the approved quality plan.
