A machinable 3D model is not a complete purchasing specification. A titanium CNC machining RFQ should identify the controlled drawing, material, critical dimensions, inspection and delivery requirements.

  • Titanium grade, source-material form, standard and condition
  • Quantity, lot size and delivery schedule
  • Datum, critical dimensions, GD&T and general tolerances
  • Threads, radii, chamfers, deburring and edge condition
  • Surface finish, cleaning and permitted processing marks
  • First article, sampling, CMM, gauges and documentation

Separate Material and Component Requirements

ASTM B265, B348 or B381 may control source plate, bar or forging. The finished component remains controlled by the approved drawing and purchase order.

Design for Inspection

Critical characteristics need an accessible datum and agreed measurement method. State whether inspection is required in-process, after final machining or after surface treatment.
