Grade 1 titanium wire (UNS R50250) is the most ductile of the common commercially pure titanium grades and is selected when formability and corrosion resistance are more important than high strength. The application still depends on wire diameter, condition, surface, processing route and the governing product or component standard.

Grade 1 Wire Is Not Defined by Chemistry Alone

ASTM B863 is a common specification for titanium and titanium alloy wire, while welding electrodes and filler metals use separate classifications. The purchase order should state the intended use and exact standard. Mechanical properties can vary with diameter, cold work and annealed condition, so values should be taken from the applicable specification and material test report.

When Should Another Grade Be Considered?

If the component needs higher minimum strength, Grade 2 or an alloy grade may be more appropriate, but reduced formability and different fabrication controls must be assessed. Do not substitute grades on nominal diameter alone; compare the required specification, certified properties, corrosion environment and downstream process.
