What Must Be Checked for High-Temperature or High-Pressure Service?
Grade 5 titanium wire combines useful strength with low density, but a room-temperature material description is not enough to establish suitability for a high-temperature or pressure-related assembly. The designer must define whether the wire is a welding consumable, formed component, screen, spring or another load-carrying element because each use has different controls.
- Temperature: confirm time at temperature, oxidation exposure and the allowable design stress for the applicable code.
- Pressure boundary: evaluate the complete component geometry, weld procedure, defects, fatigue and inspection—not wire strength alone.
- Environment: check process chemistry, galvanic couples and possible hydrogen uptake.
- Supply condition: state grade, standard, diameter, tolerance, surface, coil or spool form and certification.
For welding, filler classification and compatibility with the base metal and qualified welding procedure are essential. Material test reports support traceability, but they do not replace pressure-system design approval.
