Classification Of Titanium Fasteners
Titanium fasteners are classified by function, head or drive, thread, material grade, dimensional standard and joint requirement. A product name such as “titanium screw” is not enough for quotation or engineering approval.
Functional Classification

Material and Thread Classification
Commercially pure and alloy titanium grades differ in strength, ductility and corrosion behaviour. State the exact material specification and condition. Thread requirements include metric or unified system, nominal diameter, pitch or threads per inch, class, handedness, thread length and any inspection gauge.
Joint Requirements Control the Selection
Head shape does not establish joint performance. The designer must evaluate preload, tightening method, galling, lubrication, mating material, engagement, fatigue, temperature, corrosion environment and resistance to loosening. Locking nuts also require operating-temperature and reuse limits.

FAQ
Can any titanium nut be paired with a titanium bolt?
No. Match thread system, diameter, pitch, class, engagement, material strength and joint design. Similar-looking threads can be incompatible, and using the same alloy on both sides can increase galling risk unless the assembly method is controlled.
Can titanium prevailing-torque lock nuts be reused?
Reuse depends on lock-nut type, temperature exposure, governing standard and measured prevailing torque. Nylon inserts and all-metal locking features have different limits; specify whether reuse is prohibited or requires verification.
Does a material test report prove dimensional compliance?
No. The MTR supports material chemistry and properties. Dimensions, threads and functional features require separate inspection against the drawing or dimensional standard.
