  • UNS R50400 commercially pure titanium
  • MTC and dimensional inspection

Grade 2 Titanium Flat Washers

Grade 2 titanium flat washers are commercially pure UNS R50400 bearing components used beneath bolt heads or nuts to distribute contact load, protect joint surfaces and support corrosion-resistant fastening assemblies. Inside diameter, outside diameter, thickness, hardness, surface condition and compatibility with the mating hardware must be stated by standard or drawing.

Quick RFQ answer: Specify Grade 2 / UNS R50400, ISO 7089 or ISO 7090 geometry or a controlled drawing, thread-size designation, inside diameter, outside diameter, thickness, quantity, finish, inspection and required documentation.

Product Specifications

Material Titanium Grade 2 / commercially pure titanium / UNS R50400
Forms Regular flat washers, small-series or large-series geometry, and drawing-specific annular washers
Dimensional references ISO 7089 / ISO 7090, DIN 125 legacy dimensions when expressly invoked, or customer drawing
Dimensions Inside diameter, outside diameter, thickness, flatness, edge break and any chamfer or radius
Surface condition Cleaned and deburred; machined, polished or project-specific finish by agreement
Documentation MTC, heat/lot traceability and dimensional inspection report as required

Size availability, minimum quantity and lead time are confirmed at quotation. A dimensional standard does not by itself define Grade 2 material or finished-washer performance.

Function in a Bolted Joint

A flat washer provides a controlled bearing surface and can reduce local embedment or marking beneath the turning component. It may bridge an oversized clearance hole only when the washer and joint have been designed for the resulting bending and bearing stresses. A plain washer is not a locking device and does not replace a validated preload or anti-loosening method.

The washer should be reviewed with the bolt, nut and clamped material. Excessive inside diameter reduces support near the hole; insufficient outside diameter or thickness can allow cupping. Flatness and burr direction can also affect seating.

Why Grade 2 Titanium?

Grade 2 is a commercially pure titanium grade valued for corrosion resistance, formability and a useful balance of strength and ductility. It may be evaluated for seawater equipment, chemical-processing assemblies, heat-exchanger hardware, desalination systems and general industrial joints where Grade 2 is compatible with the design environment.

Material selection must consider chemical species, concentration, temperature, crevices, contaminants and mating metals. Grade 2 is not universally resistant to every reducing acid or high-temperature condition.

Galvanic and Surface Considerations

Titanium is relatively noble in seawater and other conductive environments. When it is connected to carbon steel, aluminum or another less noble metal, the area relationship and electrolyte exposure can accelerate attack of the other component. Isolation sleeves, nonconductive washers, coatings, drainage and inspection access may be required by the system design.

The bearing face should be free from sharp burrs and contamination. If a lubricant, coating or sealant is used in the joint, its compatibility with the process medium and its effect on preload must be evaluated.

Inspection Options

Inspection can include certificate review, dimensional measurement of bore, outside diameter and thickness, flatness checks, visual examination, surface-condition verification and positive material identification when agreed. Sampling, lot definition and report format should be stated before manufacture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are custom outside diameters available?

Drawing-specific bore, outside diameter and thickness combinations can be reviewed for manufacturability and quantity.

Does a flat washer prevent loosening?

No. A flat washer primarily provides a bearing surface; locking requirements need a separate validated method.

Can washers be supplied with Grade 2 bolts and nuts?

Grade-compatible bolts, nuts, studs and washers can be reviewed as one traceable fastening package.
