Grade 2 Titanium Stud Bolts and Threaded Rods
Grade 2 titanium stud bolts and threaded rods are commercially pure titanium fastening products selected primarily for corrosion resistance, fabricability and low density. They are commonly evaluated for chemical-processing, marine, desalination and industrial assemblies where the joint design does not require the higher strength of Ti-6Al-4V.

Why Use Grade 2 Titanium?
Grade 2 offers a useful balance of corrosion resistance, ductility, weldability and moderate strength. It is often preferred over Grade 5 when environmental resistance and fabrication are more important than maximum fastener strength. Material selection must consider the complete process stream, temperature, concentration, aeration, crevices and possible galvanic couples.
Stud and Threaded-Rod Configurations
- Fully threaded rod: continuous thread for adjustable engagement and field cutting where the approved procedure permits.
- Double-end stud: threaded at both ends with an unthreaded shank between.
- Tap-end stud: unequal thread lengths or thread forms for a tapped component and mating nut.
- Custom stud: drawing-controlled shoulders, end features, lengths or thread combinations.
Applications and Joint Design
Typical evaluation areas include chemical-processing equipment, seawater piping, desalination plants, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, electrochemical systems and marine structures. The engineer should confirm allowable load, preload, fatigue, thread engagement, nut compatibility, flange behavior and corrosion conditions. Grade 2 should not be substituted for a higher-strength alloy without design verification.
Galling, Installation and Inspection
Titanium-on-titanium threaded joints can gall. Clean threads, compatible lubrication or coating, controlled tightening speed and a validated torque/tension procedure can reduce risk. Inspection options may include certificate review, dimensional checks, thread gauging, visual examination, material verification where suitable and project-specific mechanical testing.

Are Grade 2 studs suitable for seawater?
Grade 2 has strong resistance in many seawater services, but final suitability depends on temperature, crevice conditions, flow, contamination, galvanic couples and the joint design.
What is the difference between a stud bolt and threaded rod?
Threaded rod normally has continuous thread over its length. A stud may be fully threaded or have defined threaded ends and an unthreaded shank, depending on the specified configuration.
Can different thread forms be supplied?
Metric, UNC, UNF and drawing-specific threads can be reviewed. The RFQ should identify the thread standard, pitch, tolerance and inspection gauge requirements.
