Grade 2 Titanium U-Bolts

Grade 2 titanium U-bolts are bent commercially pure titanium fasteners with two parallel threaded legs, commonly reviewed for pipe restraint, brackets and corrosion-resistant mounting assemblies. Finished capacity depends on rod diameter, bend radius, thread form, material condition, installation and applied load; the titanium grade alone is not a working-load rating.

Dimensions, bend radius and thread coverage are confirmed against the order. Stock, minimum quantity, delivery time and load capacity are confirmed only after engineering review.

Geometry and Measurement

A U-bolt drawing should define rod diameter, inside width, inside height, bend radius, leg length, thread length and end condition. It must also state whether height is measured to the inside or centerline of the bend. Pipe nominal size alone is insufficient because outside diameter, insulation, liners and installation clearance affect fit.

Bending changes the material condition locally and can influence cross-section, surface strain and thread alignment. Minimum bend radius and the relationship between the bend and threaded areas must be reviewed before manufacture.

Why Grade 2 Titanium?

Grade 2 offers a useful combination of corrosion resistance, formability and moderate strength. It may be evaluated for seawater cooling, desalination, chemical-processing equipment, heat-exchanger piping, marine brackets and outdoor installations where commercially pure titanium is appropriate.

Grade 2 should not be chosen from the words “marine” or “chemical” alone. Temperature, chemical concentration, contaminants, crevice conditions, cyclic load, vibration and mating materials remain part of the design review.

Loading and Installation Limits

U-bolts can experience combined tension, bending, contact and fatigue. Tightening may deform the supported pipe or bracket, and uneven nut advancement can load one leg more than the other. A universal torque or working load cannot be assigned without geometry, material condition and joint information.

Use a qualified tightening sequence and suitable bearing hardware. If titanium nuts are used, galling control should address clean threads, installation speed and an approved lubricant or coating. Lubrication changes the torque–tension relationship and requires validated assembly data.

Corrosion and Galvanic Review

When a titanium U-bolt clamps carbon steel, aluminum or another dissimilar material in seawater, the galvanic couple and exposed-area relationship should be evaluated. Sleeves, liners, coatings, flat washers, drainage and inspection access may be needed. Trapped solution beneath a clamp can create a local environment different from the bulk fluid.

Inspection Options

Inspection can include certificate review, rod-diameter measurement, inside width and height, bend profile, leg parallelism, thread gauging, visual examination and surface-condition verification. Load or proof testing is performed only when a test method and acceptance criteria are defined by the order.
