Grade 5 Titanium U-Bolts
Grade 5 titanium U-bolts are bent Ti-6Al-4V fasteners with two parallel threaded legs, commonly reviewed for pipe restraint, brackets and corrosion-resistant mounting assemblies. U-bolt capacity depends on material condition, bend geometry, thread form, installation, mating hardware and applied loading; the alloy grade alone is not a finished-component design rating.
Product Specifications

| Configurations | Round-bend and drawing-specific U-bolts; square-bend or custom profiles subject to forming review |
| Dimensional references | DIN 3570 for applicable metric pipe U-bolts, ASME B18.31.5 for applicable inch-series bent bolts, or customer drawing |
| Threads | Metric coarse/fine, UNC, UNF or drawing-specific thread; rolled or machined route subject to size and quantity |
| Mating hardware | Grade-compatible titanium nuts and washers or project-defined alternatives |
| Surface condition | Cleaned, deburred, polished or project-specific finish; lubricant/coating by agreement |
| Documents | MTC, heat/lot traceability and dimensional report; additional testing when specified |
Dimensions, bend radius and thread coverage are confirmed against the drawing. This page does not declare stock, capacity or a universal working load.
Critical U-Bolt Dimensions
U-bolts should be ordered from a controlled drawing or an unambiguous dimensional standard. The nominal pipe size alone is insufficient because outside diameter, insulation, saddle, clearance and clamp geometry can change the required dimensions.
- Rod or thread diameter and thread pitch
- Inside width between the legs
- Inside height from the bend to the ends
- Bend radius and round- or square-bend profile
- Thread length, overall leg length and end condition
Material, Forming and Thread Requirements
Grade 5 titanium offers a high strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance for demanding assemblies. Forming can affect bend geometry and local properties, so the manufacturing route, material condition, bend radius and any post-forming requirements should be agreed before production. Raw-material compliance may be referenced to ASTM B348 when applicable, while finished dimensions and acceptance remain controlled by the U-bolt standard or drawing.
Applications and Engineering Limits
Grade 5 titanium U-bolts may be evaluated for marine and offshore brackets, aerospace and vehicle mounts, chemical-processing supports, heat-exchanger hardware and lightweight industrial fixtures. A U-bolt used around pipe can restrain, guide or support depending on the assembly; it should not automatically be treated as a pressure-retaining component or lifting device.
Engineering review should address static and cyclic load, bend stress, thread stress, clamp force, pipe-wall sensitivity, vibration, temperature, galvanic compatibility and the effect of saddles or liners. Titanium threads can gall, so compatible lubrication, clean assembly and controlled tightening procedures may be required.
Inspection, Traceability and Packaging
Inspection can include raw-material certificate review, rod diameter, inside width and height, bend profile, thread gauging, visual examination and heat/lot traceability. Mechanical or proof testing is performed only when the governing specification or purchase order defines the method and acceptance criteria. Threaded ends are protected and components are separated for export transport.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a U-bolt be ordered only by pipe size?
No. Provide the actual outside diameter or controlled inside width, plus inside height, rod diameter, bend radius and thread length. Insulation, liners and saddles must also be considered.
Are matching titanium nuts and washers available?
Matching titanium nuts and washers can be reviewed as a set. The required grade, dimensions, locking method, surface condition and anti-galling procedure should be stated.
Can custom U-bolts be made from a drawing?
Custom widths, heights, bend profiles, threads and end details can be reviewed for manufacturability, tolerance, quantity and inspection requirements.
