Product Detail
Product Introduction
Grade 5 lock nuts combine a Ti-6Al-4V nut body with a specified prevailing-torque feature. Selection must match locking form to service temperature, chemicals, mating fastener, lubricant, installation procedure, proof-load requirements and permitted reuse cycles.
Product Specifications
| Product | Grade 5 Titanium Lock Nuts | Material | Titanium Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V, UNS R56400) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product Form | Nylon-insert or all-metal prevailing-torque lock nut | Typical Inquiry Range | M3 to M24 typical inquiry range; UNC, UNF and custom sizes by review |
| Dimensional References | ISO 7040, ISO 7042, DIN, ASME/ANSI or approved drawing | Threads / Dimensions | Metric coarse or fine, UNC, UNF or drawing-specific as applicable |
| Surface | Machined and cleaned; lubricant, anti-galling treatment or coating by agreement | Documents | MTC, heat/lot traceability and dimensional inspection report |
| Inspection | Dimensions, thread gauging, surface and agreed functional or mechanical tests | Supply Basis | Approved purchase order, invoked standard and drawing |
Typical inquiry ranges are not a stock guarantee. Final manufacturability, tolerances and test requirements are confirmed against the complete RFQ.
Selection and Configuration
- Nylon-insert form: Use only where the approved insert material remains compatible with temperature, chemicals, moisture and maintenance life.
- All-metal form: Removes the polymer insert but requires validation of prevailing torque, relaxation and galling risk.
- Mating joint: Specify bolt grade, thread tolerance, lubrication and the required prevailing-torque test sequence.

Chemical Composition – Titanium Grade 5
Weight percent. Values are material limits; titanium is the balance.
| Al | V | Fe max | O max | C max | N max | H max | Residual each / total | Ti |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5.50–6.75 | 3.50–4.50 | 0.40 | 0.20 | 0.08 | 0.05 | 0.015 | 0.10 / 0.40 | Balance |
Mechanical Properties – Grade 5 Material Reference
| Property | Annealed Grade 5 Material Reference Minimum |
|---|---|
| Ultimate tensile strength | 895 MPa (130 ksi) |
| 0.2% yield strength | 828 MPa (120 ksi) |
| Elongation | 10% |
| Reduction of area | 25% |
Material values do not automatically establish finished-fastener loadability. Finished-part acceptance depends on geometry, manufacturing route, condition and the expressly invoked fastener specification or drawing.

FAQ
What information is required to quote Grade 5 Titanium Lock Nuts?
Provide the titanium grade, product form, dimensional standard or drawing, thread or critical dimensions, quantity, surface treatment, mating parts, service conditions and required inspection documents.
Which standards apply to Grade 5 Titanium Lock Nuts?
ISO 7040, ISO 7042, DIN and ASME B18 references may define particular forms when expressly invoked. The order must separately establish Grade 5 condition and applicable ASTM F467/F467M finished-nut requirements.
How are Grade 5 Titanium Lock Nuts inspected?
Available inspection includes MTC review, across-flats and height measurement, thread gauging, locking-feature inspection, agreed prevailing-torque testing, specified mechanical tests and heat/lot traceability.
