How should Grade 2 titanium wire be specified?

Selection answer: Use ASTM B863 Grade 2 / UNS R50400 for specification-controlled product wire where commercially pure titanium corrosion resistance and forming characteristics are required. Define diameter, condition, delivery form and the finished component duty.

Selection boundary: Do not use Grade 2, ERTi-2 and implant-grade wire as interchangeable descriptions. Product wire, welding filler and surgical-implant material have different controlling standards and acceptance documentation.

Is ASTM B863 Grade 2 wire the same as ERTi-2 welding wire?

No. ASTM B863 Grade 2 is titanium product wire identified as UNS R50400. ERTi-2 is a welding filler classification controlled by AWS A5.16 / ISO 24034. State the intended product and governing standard explicitly.

Can general Grade 2 wire be ordered for surgical implant use?

Not from the grade name alone. ASTM F67 establishes additional requirements for unalloyed titanium used for surgical implants. The application, governing specification, quality system, testing and traceability must be agreed before supply.

What information is needed to quote Grade 2 titanium wire?
