When should Grade 23 titanium wire be specified?

Selection answer: Grade 23 Ti-6Al-4V ELI wire is selected when the approved design requires lower interstitial limits than Grade 5 together with a wire product form and the exact governing material specification.

Is ASTM B863 Grade 23 wire automatically ASTM F136 implant material?

No. ASTM B863 Grade 23 is UNS R56407. ASTM F136 surgical-implant material is UNS R56401 and carries separate chemical, mechanical and metallurgical requirements. The purchase order must state the required specification and UNS.

Is Grade 23 wire the same as ERTi-5 welding wire?

No. Grade 23 is a wrought Ti-6Al-4V ELI material grade. ERTi-5 is a welding-filler classification used under a qualified welding procedure. Do not substitute one description for the other.

What information is needed to quote Grade 23 wire?
