How should Ti-6Al-4V ELI sheet and plate be specified?
Selection answer: Use ASTM B265 Grade 23 / UNS R56407 for the applicable annealed flat-product order. For surgical implant manufacture, invoke ASTM F136 / UNS R56401 and the required medical quality and documentation controls.
Selection boundary: Do not substitute Grade 5, ASTM B265 Grade 23 and ASTM F136 material from alloy-family similarity alone. Interstitial limits, UNS, condition, product form, testing and certificate system govern acceptance.

Is ASTM B265 Grade 23 the same as ASTM F136 material?
No. ASTM B265 Grade 23 is identified as UNS R56407 for strip, sheet and plate. ASTM F136 covers wrought annealed Ti-6Al-4V ELI for surgical implant manufacture as UNS R56401. Similar alloy naming does not make the specifications or certificates interchangeable.
Can Grade 23 sheet or plate be used for a medical implant?
Only when the material, product form, processing, quality system, tests and traceability meet the expressly required medical specification and regulatory controls. A generic Grade 23 or ASTM B265 certificate is not sufficient by itself.
What information is needed to quote Grade 23 sheet or plate?
