Product Detail

Product Introduction

Titanium Grade 7 Sheet & Plate is supplied for corrosion-resistant fabrication and precision manufacturing. The final purchase definition must identify the exact material designation, governing specification and revision, dimensions, condition, tolerances, tests and documentation; trade-name or cross-standard equivalence is not assumed.

When is Grade 7 plate preferred to Grade 2?

Selection answer: Grade 7 is a palladium-bearing commercially pure titanium grade selected to improve resistance in certain reducing or crevice-corrosion environments while retaining fabrication behavior broadly associated with CP titanium.

Selection boundary: The palladium addition does not make the material universally resistant. Media chemistry, concentration, contaminants, aeration, temperature and crevice geometry must be reviewed before selection.

RFQ data to confirm: Send process chemistry, concentration, operating and upset temperatures, fabrication and welding plan, thickness, dimensions, tests and certificate requirements.

Specification & Selection Notes

Product-standard boundary

ASTM B265/B265M covers annealed titanium and titanium-alloy strip, sheet and plate and identifies Grade 7 as UNS R52400 unalloyed titanium with 0.12 % to 0.25 % palladium. The order should state the exact revision, Grade 7 / UNS R52400, sheet or plate form, final condition, dimensions and tolerances, flatness, surface, edge, quantity and documentation. Grade 7H shares UNS R52400 but has a higher guaranteed minimum tensile strength and is a distinct ordered grade designation.

Inspection and traceability

Verify Grade 7 / UNS R52400 heat identity, chemistry including palladium, tensile properties and test orientation, final condition, thickness, width and length, flatness, surface and edges, marking, MTC and heat/lot traceability. Additional corrosion testing, ultrasonic examination or customer witness must name the test method, sampling and acceptance criteria.

Selection boundary

Grade 7 is commonly evaluated where palladium-alloyed commercially pure titanium is required for a specific corrosion environment, but it is not a blanket upgrade for every chemical service. Process composition, concentration, contaminants, temperature, flow, crevice geometry, fabrication route and the approved design basis must be reviewed before choosing it over Grade 2 or Grade 12.

Technical FAQ

When should Grade 7 be considered instead of Grade 2?

Consider Grade 7 when the approved corrosion assessment specifically benefits from its palladium addition. Selection should be based on the actual process chemistry and temperature, not only on a general corrosion-resistance claim.

Are Grade 7 and Grade 7H interchangeable?

They share UNS R52400 and the same palladium range, but Grade 7H has a higher guaranteed minimum tensile strength. Use the grade designation required by the design and governing code.
