Product Detail

Product Introduction

Grade 9 Titanium Rod is supplied for corrosion-resistant fabrication and precision manufacturing. The final purchase definition must identify the exact material designation, governing specification and revision, dimensions, condition, tolerances, tests and documentation; trade-name or cross-standard equivalence is not assumed.

Application Scenarios

Chemical processing plant with industrial process piping

Chemical processing equipment

Material grade, dimensions, condition and inspection must be matched to the application requirements.

Wind turbines and solar panels at a renewable energy site

Marine and desalination systems

Material grade, dimensions, condition and inspection must be matched to the application requirements.

Cargo vessel moored for marine service

Industrial fabrication and precision components

Material grade, dimensions, condition and inspection must be matched to the application requirements.

Choose the Required Grade 9 Product Form

UNS R56320 identifies the Grade 9 Ti-3Al-2.5V alloy, but the alloy designation alone does not define the product specification. Confirm whether the RFQ requires rod or bar, seamless tube, sheet, strip or coil, then state the applicable standard, dimensions, condition, tolerance and inspection requirements.

Rod and Bar

For Grade 9 titanium rod or bar, specify ASTM B348 / ASME SB348 as applicable, diameter, length, condition, tolerance and quantity.

Grade 9 Titanium Rod

Coil and Strip

For coiled flat products, specify thickness, width, coil ID, surface condition and edge requirements.

Grade 9 Titanium Coil

Important: A certificate or requirement for one product form should not be reused to describe another. Review alloy terminology and RFQ data in the Grade 9 titanium pipe comparison guide.

Specification & Selection Notes

Product-standard boundary

ASTM B348/B348M covers annealed titanium and titanium-alloy bars and billets and identifies Grade 9 as UNS R56320 Ti-3Al-2.5V. The order should state the exact standard revision, Grade 9 / UNS R56320, bar or billet form, section and dimensions, tolerances, final condition, surface, straightness, quantity and documentation. Aerospace tubing or other product-form specifications are separate and should not be inferred from the Grade 9 alloy name.

Inspection and traceability

Verify Grade 9 / UNS R56320 heat identity, chemistry, tensile properties and test orientation, final condition, diameter and tolerance, straightness, surface, marking, MTC and heat/lot traceability. Ultrasonic testing, special surface examination or customer witness should be defined by method and acceptance criteria when required.

Selection boundary

Grade 9 offers a Ti-3Al-2.5V alloy option between commercially pure titanium and Grade 5 in many strength and forming discussions, but it is not a universal substitute for either. The approved design, governing specification, section size, condition, fabrication route, fatigue basis and service environment must support the selection.

Technical FAQ

How does Grade 9 titanium rod differ from Grade 5?

Grade 9 is Ti-3Al-2.5V / UNS R56320, while Grade 5 is Ti-6Al-4V / UNS R56400. They have different chemistry, specified properties and qualification routes and should not be substituted without engineering approval.

Is Grade 9 titanium rod the same product as Grade 9 tube?

No. They may use the same alloy family, but bar or rod and tube follow different product specifications, manufacturing routes, dimensions and acceptance requirements.
