FAQ

Is a circular plate blank the same as a forged disc?

No. A circular blank is cut from rolled plate, while a forged disc is produced through a forging route. Grain flow, available thickness, inspection and design qualification can differ.

Does ASTM B265 define the blank diameter tolerance?

ASTM B265/B265M governs the source plate when invoked. Blank diameter, roundness, cut-edge condition and machining allowance should be stated on the order or drawing.

What allowance should be added for machining?

Allowance depends on diameter, thickness, cutting route, edge taper, flatness and the finished-part tolerance. Provide the final drawing so an appropriate rough-blank size can be agreed.
