Product Detail
Product Introduction
Grade 5 Titanium Wing Nuts provide two integral wings for manual tightening and removal where tool-free adjustment is useful. Manual input limits achievable preload, and the wings introduce clearance and snag considerations. Define thread engagement, mating fastener, frequency of adjustment, vibration, retention method and permitted hand torque.
Product Specifications
| Product | Grade 5 Titanium Wing Nuts | Material | Titanium Grade 5 / Ti-6Al-4V / UNS R56400 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product Form | Standard or drawing-specific titanium fastener | Typical Inquiry Range | Metric, inch and custom sizes confirmed at RFQ stage |
| Dimensional References | Expressly invoked standard or approved drawing | Threads / Dimensions | Metric coarse or fine, UNC, UNF or drawing-specific as applicable |
| Surface | Machined and cleaned; lubricant, anti-galling treatment or coating by agreement | Documents | MTC, heat/lot traceability and dimensional inspection report |
| Inspection | Dimensions, thread gauging, surface and agreed functional or mechanical tests | Supply Basis | Approved purchase order, invoked standard and drawing |
Typical inquiry ranges are not a stock guarantee. Final manufacturability, tolerances and test requirements are confirmed against the complete RFQ.
Selection and Configuration
- Hand adjustment: Confirm that manually achievable torque and clamp load are suitable for the joint and duty.
- Wing envelope: Define overall width, height, wing thickness and surrounding clearance for fingers and nearby components.
- Retention and vibration: If loosening resistance is required, specify a compatible secondary retention feature rather than assuming wing geometry provides locking.

Chemical Composition – Titanium Grade 5
Weight percent. Values are material limits; titanium is the balance.
| Al | V | Fe max | O max | C max | N max | H max | Residual each / total | Ti |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5.50–6.75 | 3.50–4.50 | 0.40 | 0.20 | 0.08 | 0.05 | 0.015 | 0.10 / 0.40 | Balance |
Mechanical Properties – Grade 5 Material Reference
| Property | Annealed Grade 5 Material Reference Minimum |
|---|---|
| Ultimate tensile strength | 895 MPa (130 ksi) |
| 0.2% yield strength | 828 MPa (120 ksi) |
| Elongation | 10% |
| Reduction of area | 25% |
Material values do not automatically establish finished-fastener loadability. Finished-part acceptance depends on geometry, manufacturing route, condition and the expressly invoked fastener specification or drawing.
Typical Physical Properties

Application Scenarios

Chemical Processing
Corrosion-resistant equipment joints selected against the complete process environment.

Power & Energy
Lightweight engineered assemblies requiring controlled dimensions and traceability.

Marine & Shipbuilding
Corrosion-resistant joints subject to galvanic, preload and service-condition review.
FAQ
Are wing nuts suitable for high-preload joints?
They are mainly intended for hand adjustment and normally cannot develop the controlled preload of a wrench-tightened nut. The joint must be designed accordingly.
Do titanium wing nuts resist vibration loosening?
Wing form alone is not a locking feature. Vibration duty may require a compatible lock washer, prevailing-torque element, pin or another validated retention method.
What should be included in an RFQ?
Provide titanium grade, standard or drawing, thread and fit, wing dimensions, quantity, mating fastener, adjustment duty, retention, tests and certificates.
