Head Loadability and Countersink Fit
The drive recess removes material from the head, and a countersunk head normally has a smaller effective section than many protruding head styles. The head may govern capacity before the threaded portion reaches its full tensile capability. The mating countersink must also provide uniform contact; angular mismatch, excessive depth or poor concentricity can concentrate stress.
Design review should include tensile and shear loading, plate thickness, edge distance, fatigue, countersink geometry and installation torque. A same-size socket cap screw should not be replaced with a countersunk screw solely because the thread fits.
Galling and Assembly
Titanium threads can gall during tightening. Clean compatible threads, controlled installation speed and a qualified lubricant or coating may reduce risk. Lubrication changes friction and the preload generated by a given torque; use validated assembly data rather than a generic torque chart. Review galvanic isolation when titanium contacts dissimilar metals in seawater or another conductive environment.
