Product Detail

Product Introduction

Source Ti-6242 titanium rod for high-temperature aerospace service, with controlled processing, inspection and traceability. Final supply is controlled by the grade, specification revision, dimensions, condition, tolerance, inspection and documentation stated on the approved order.

When should Ti-6242 titanium rod be specified?

Selection answer: Ti-6242 is selected for aerospace and elevated-temperature components where the approved design and material specification require its strength, creep resistance and thermal stability rather than a general commercial titanium grade.

Selection boundary: Do not replace it with Grade 5, Grade 6, another near-alpha alloy or a different Ti-6242 heat-treatment condition without engineering approval. Specification, product form, section size, thermal history and test requirements control acceptance.

RFQ data to confirm: Send the exact specification and revision, heat-treatment condition, diameter or section, length, application temperature, machining allowance, test orientation, NDT, microstructure, certificates, quantity and destination for technical review.

StandardTi-6242 is the 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo alloy family and is not ASTM Grade 6 or Grade 5. For current SAE specifications, AMS 6905 covers duplex-annealed bars and forging stock within its dimensional scope, while AMS 4975 covers solution- and precipitation-heat-treated bars and rings. The purchase order must state the exact specification revision, product form, size and heat-treatment condition.Size & FormRound rod and bar; diameter, length and forging route are reviewed per RFQ
ToleranceAMS or drawing-defined; finish machining allowance can be includedSupply ConditionForged or rolled, heat treated, peeled or ground
InspectionVerify heat identity and alloy chemistry, raw-material and heat-treatment records, tensile properties and test orientation, dimensions, straightness, surface, decarburization or alpha-case acceptance where invoked, and marking. Define ultrasonic examination, microstructure, creep or elevated-temperature testing, fracture or cleanliness requirements only from the applicable aerospace specification and drawing acceptance criteria.DocumentsMTC, heat/lot traceability and agreed inspection reports

FAQ

Is Ti-6242 the same as ASTM Grade 6 titanium?

No. Ti-6242 is nominally Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo. ASTM Grade 6 is Ti-5Al-2.5Sn. Similar numbering or the presence of tin does not make the alloy, properties or specifications interchangeable.

What is the difference between AMS 6905 and AMS 4975 for Ti-6242?

AMS 6905 covers duplex-annealed bars and forging stock within its stated size scope. AMS 4975 covers solution- and precipitation-heat-treated bars and rings. The required condition and product form must be taken from the design specification.

What information is needed to quote Ti-6242 rod?

Provide Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo, exact AMS or project specification and revision, bar or forging-stock form, diameter or section, length, heat-treatment condition, machining allowance, quantity, test orientation, UT, microstructure, elevated-temperature tests, MTC and heat traceability.
