Product Introduction
Titanium Grade 7 Pipe & Tube is supplied for corrosion-resistant fabrication and precision manufacturing. The final purchase definition must identify the exact material designation, governing specification and revision, dimensions, condition, tolerances, tests and documentation; trade-name or cross-standard equivalence is not assumed.
When is Grade 7 pipe or tube selected?
Selection answer: Grade 7 adds palladium to a CP titanium base and is selected for enhanced resistance in certain reducing-acid, crevice or aggressive process environments after corrosion review.
Selection boundary: Grade 7 is not automatically required for all seawater service and is not universally resistant to every acid. Selection must use real chemistry, temperature, aeration, contaminants and geometry.
RFQ data to confirm: Provide product standard and route, OD or NPS, wall, medium and concentration, temperature range, welding, NDT, pressure test and material certification.

Product-standard boundary
Grade 7 is UNS R52400 unalloyed titanium with 0.12 % to 0.25 % palladium. ASTM B338 applies to seamless and welded condenser or heat-exchanger tube, ASTM B861 to seamless pipe, and ASTM B862 to welded pipe. These product scopes are different. The RFQ should identify the exact revision, Grade 7 rather than Grade 7H unless required, tube or pipe form, seamless or welded route, dimensions, condition, ends, testing and documentation.
Inspection and traceability
Verify Grade 7 / UNS R52400 heat identity and palladium content, the ordered standard and revision, construction route, chemistry and tensile results, OD or NPS, wall, length, condition, surface and ends, marking, MTC and heat/lot traceability. Pressure or leak testing, eddy-current, ultrasonic examination and supplementary corrosion testing should follow the applicable product standard and expressly defined acceptance criteria.
Selection boundary
Grade 7 is commonly evaluated for process environments where its palladium addition provides a documented advantage, but it is not a universal corrosion upgrade. Process composition, concentration, contaminants, temperature, flow, crevice geometry, pressure, welding and the equipment code should support both the alloy and the tube or pipe route.
Technical FAQ
When should Grade 7 tube be considered instead of Grade 2?
Consider Grade 7 when a corrosion assessment for the actual process chemistry and temperature supports the palladium-alloyed grade. A general claim of better corrosion resistance is not sufficient for selection.
Are Grade 7 and Grade 7H pipe interchangeable?
They share UNS R52400 and the same palladium range, but Grade 7H has a higher guaranteed minimum tensile strength. Use the exact grade required by the pressure design and governing code.
